A Coffee A Day Keeps Hair Loss At Bay?
It is estimated that 83% of adults drink coffee, and out of them, 65% have a coffee with or before their breakfast. But did you know that caffeine can affect your hair?
There are hundreds of things out there that are rumoured to stop hair loss or promote hair growth etc. But let’s face it, the majority of these miracle products are just trends or advertisements that are designed to make you buy them. Most of them have no significant effect on hair loss or hair growth.
But now, a study conducted by the International Journal of Dermatology has found that caffeine DOES have an impact on your hair. For those of you that are worried about your hair loss, your morning coffee is about to taste so much better.
According to the study, in which participants scalps were exposed to testosterone and some were also exposed to caffeine, the caffeine acted as a stimulant for hair growth. The improvement in hair growth was seen by caffeine blocking the effects of DHT on the hair follicles, a key player in Male Pattern Baldness. Apparently, the scalps that were exposed to only testosterone saw no significant change, but the scalps that were exposed to more testosterone and caffeine saw an increase in hair growth.
Unfortunately, the only way you can use caffeine to see a difference in your hair is by applying it topically. Don’t bother rushing your coffee whilst reading this; it would take approximately 50 cups per day to get the required dosage that the study used, and that’s not good for anyone! The good news is that there are many products on the market which contain caffeine, such as shampoos and hair masks.
So maybe caffeine is worth a try after all!?
